Lulu Roman, 78, born Bertha Louise Hable, passed away at her sonâs home on April 23rd, 2025.
This beloved gospel artist did not have a publicly stated cause of death. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, her son, Damon, mentioned that she was surrounded by family at the time, having relocated to Bellingham, Washington, seven months prior to be closer to him.
Lulu was born on May 6, 1946, and as a child, she was placed in a Baptist orphanage in Dallas.
Sadly, she was never adopted and faced challenges, including a thyroid condition that contributed to her being overweight. In high school, she struggled with drugs, which led to a rocky path. Yet, her story is one of redemption, as she embraced Christianity in 1973 after a drug possession arrest in 1971 for marijuana, speed, LSD, and meth.
She famously said, âAfter I gave my heart to Jesus, the Lord started working on me and making me into quite a different person than when I started.âÂ
Throughout her life, she sang about Jesus. Watch her perform âAmazing Graceâ below.
